18th – 19th Century

Life on the Estate

Old Court evolved as a working family estate, shaped by agriculture, daily life and its enduring relationship with the  shores of Strangford Lough.

20th Century

Continuity Through Change

Through periods of social and economic change, Old Court remains a privately held family estate, adapting thoughtfully while preserving its historic character and sense of place.

Today

A Living Estate

Today, Old Court continues under careful family stewardship – a place where history, landscape and modern life coexist. The estate now welcomes guests for stays, gatherings and celebration, while remaining rooted in its past.

1264

Creation of the Barony

In 1264, the barony of the de Ros Estate was established, laying the foundations for centuries of stewardship along the shores of Strangford Lough. The estate remains in the care of the same family to this day.

1629

Old Court Chapel

In 1629, a private chapel was built on the estate by Valentine Payne, forming one of the earliest surviving features of Old Court and a lasting symbol of its spirtiual heritage.

1852

The Boathouse & Katharine Quay 

In 1852, the Boathouse and private Katharine Quay were added, opening Old Court directly onto the still waters of Strangford Lough and strengthening its connection to the landscape.

2014

Old Court Weddings 

In 2014, Old Court entered a new chapter, becoming  a dedicated wedding and events venue. Since then, its historic grounds  have welcomed couples seeking aimless celebrations in a setting shaped by History.

The Future of Our Legacy

As old Court continues to evolve, it is guided by a commitment to thoughtful stewardship - ensuring the estate is preserved, enhanced and enjoyed for generations to come.
